TLDR Wearing a hijab may lead to earlier hair loss due to vitamin D deficiency and seborrheic dermatitis.
This study investigated the association between non-scarring alopecia and wearing the hijab, involving 125 hijab-wearing patients and 40 non-hijab-wearing women. It found that women who wear the hijab experience alopecia at a younger age (31.5 years) compared to those who do not (37.3 years). The study identified vitamin D deficiency and seborrheic dermatitis as significant risk factors for developing telogen effluvium in hijab-wearing women, with odds ratios of 4.1 and 2.9, respectively. Addressing these risk factors may help prevent hair loss in this population.
