TLDR A new system helps better diagnose and treat female androgenization conditions like PCOS.
The study introduced a novel nomenclature and classification system for female functional androgenization (FA), including conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome and non-classic congenital adrenal hyperplasia. It was a retrospective case-control study involving 126 FA patients and controls, categorized into five groups based on specific symptoms and variables such as acne, hirsutism, androgenetic alopecia, BMI, testosterone levels, and insulin response. The classification aimed to improve diagnosis and treatment by identifying individual dysfunctions and disorders, thus enhancing risk assessment and scientific methodology in clinical studies. The study found significant differences in hormone levels and metabolic markers among the groups, with P-values ranging from 0.05 to 0.0001, indicating the effectiveness of the classification system in distinguishing between different FA entities.

High sugar diets may worsen hair loss by increasing 5α-reductase activity and androgen levels, especially in women with PCOS. A low sugar diet might reduce scalp DHT levels, similar to finasteride, but genetics also significantly influence hair loss.
