    Nigella sativa L., commonly known as black cumin, is a medicinal plant with a wide range of health benefits, traditionally used for conditions like rheumatism, bronchitis, and skin issues. The seeds are rich in carbohydrates, proteins, fats, essential amino acids, minerals, and vitamins, with significant amounts of unsaturated fatty acids and essential oils. Key compounds include thymoquinone and various alkaloids, saponins, and flavonoids. Research has demonstrated its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and other protective activities. The plant shows potential for developing new pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals to address various health issues.
