TLDR Nexin 1 helps control hair growth in young rats.
The study investigated the changes in Nexin 1 mRNA in the skin hair follicles of postnatal Wistar rats, aged 1 to 61 days, using radiolabel In Situ Hybridization. It was found that Nexin 1 mRNA signals appeared in follicular papillary cells at 4 days old, increased during the anagen phase, peaked in the middle-late stage, and disappeared in the catagen and telogen phases. Nexin 1 mRNA was not detected in other skin or hair follicle cells. The results suggested that Nexin 1, a serine-protease inhibitor, played a role in regulating hair follicle growth and cellular differentiation.
