TLDR A new hair transplant method suggests freezing and storing dense hairs for future use to address severe hair loss.
In 2019, a new approach was proposed for hair transplantation to preserve more donor hair follicles, particularly for men with a family history of androgenetic alopecia. The idea was to extract dense hairs from the frontal hair follicles in adulthood, freeze them, and use them for transplantation when alopecia occurs, potentially years later. This method aimed to increase the number of available follicles for transplantation and reduce the risk of insufficient follicles. The hypothesis was based on advancements in freezing technology, such as mature oocyte cryopreservation. However, the survival rate of frozen hair follicles remained uncertain. This approach was seen as a potential solution for individuals with severe hair loss, given the limited number of occipital hair follicles.
