TLDR Keloids may be influenced by stress and psychological factors.
The document explored the complex interactions between the skin and various bodily systems, emphasizing the psychoneuroimmune-endocrine intercommunication that influences skin homeostasis and healing. It highlighted that while many skin diseases like psoriasis and atopic dermatitis have recognized psychogenic components, fibroproliferative disorders such as keloids had not been traditionally considered in this context. The review presented evidence suggesting that keloids could be understood as psychomediated diseases, influenced by stress and psychosocial factors, thereby expanding the understanding of the "brain-skin connection" in the pathophysiology of keloids.
