TLDR Allopregnanolone increases KCC2 expression in baby male rats' brains, while finasteride doesn't affect it.
The study investigated the effects of neonatal administration of allopregnanolone or finasteride on the expression of K+ Cl- co-transporter (KCC2) in the hippocampus of male rats during early development. The results showed that neonatal administration of allopregnanolone led to an overexpression of KCC2, which peaked around postnatal day 10 and then decreased. In contrast, finasteride treatment did not affect the developmental increase in KCC2 expression. These findings suggest that alterations in neonatal neurosteroid levels can modify the developmental expression of KCC2 in the hippocampus.
