Nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) were highlighted as a promising nano-particulate carrier system with significant advantages in drug delivery over traditional dosage forms. They showed potential applications in both the pharmaceutical and food industries, addressing a wide range of conditions including alopecia, hypertension, diabetes, Parkinsonism, epilepsy, hyperlipidemia, cancer, hormone deficiency, topical inflammation, and various ocular, hepatic, and fungal diseases. The review covered production techniques, characterization, recent advancements, and functional food delivery applications of NLCs, along with a discussion of recent patents related to these carriers.
