Formulation of Nano-Sized Dispersion from Calendula Officinalis: A Natural Gateway to Preparation of a Hair Dye

    Dina Louis, Amira Rashad
TLDR Calendula Officinalis extract can be used to create an effective natural hair dye.
The study explores the use of Calendula Officinalis extract in creating a natural hair dye to mitigate the damage caused by synthetic dyes. The yellow pigment, Calendulin, was formulated into a nano-sized dispersion to enhance hair fiber penetration. Nine formulations were developed using a 32 factorial design, with variables including homogenization speed and time. The optimal formula, F7, was identified through response surface modeling, featuring the smallest particle size, lowest polydispersity index, and highest zeta potential. F7, prepared at 26000 rpm for 10 minutes, effectively dyed white hair and lightened black hair, suggesting its potential as a natural hair dye alternative.
