TLDR Banana stem extract may help manage diabetes by inhibiting certain enzymes.
The study investigated the antidiabetic potential of the stem of Musa paradisiacal (banana) by examining its phytochemical constituents and its ability to inhibit alpha amylase and alpha glucosidase enzymes. The research found that the hydroalcoholic extract of the stem exhibited inhibitory effects on these enzymes, suggesting that the stem could be used for antidiabetic purposes. Various phytochemicals such as starch, sugar, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, proanthocyanidins, glycosides, fat, and alkaloids were identified in the stem.
