Molecular and Pathological Studies on Sarcoptes Scabiei in Sheep in Ismailia Province, Egypt

    TLDR 10.5% of sheep in Ismailia, Egypt, had Sarcoptes scabiei, causing skin issues.
    This study investigated the molecular characterization and pathological effects of Sarcoptes scabiei infestation in 760 sheep in Ismailia province, Egypt, from October 2017 to March 2019. It found that 10.5% of the sheep were infested. Molecular analysis using the ITS-2 region of rDNA confirmed the presence of Sarcoptes scabiei. Pathological observations included alopecia, rough and leathery skin, erythema, crusts, and pruritus, with histological lesions showing hyperkeratosis, crusting, epidermal thickening, acanthosis, and vesiculation.
