TLDR Short-term use of topical minoxidil can cause eye issues, but stopping it can resolve the problem.
This case report highlights the potential ocular side effects of short-term topical minoxidil use, specifically acute central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR), as observed in two male patients, aged 45 and 34, who developed visual disturbances after using minoxidil for hair loss. Both patients experienced symptoms such as blurred vision and central visual loss, with ophthalmic examinations confirming CSCR. Discontinuation of minoxidil led to symptom resolution, suggesting that CSCR can be managed by stopping the medication. The report emphasizes the need for awareness among patients and healthcare providers regarding this possible adverse effect and calls for further research to understand the prevalence and mechanisms of minoxidil-induced CSCR.
