The Effect of Microneedling on Skin Histology: Review of Literature
TLDR Microneedling safely improves skin by boosting collagen and elastin, helping with scars, stretch marks, and other skin issues.
Microneedling is a safe, effective, and low-cost technique for treating various dermatological disorders by mechanically inducing skin reconstruction. It involves using fine needles to create superficial skin perforations, which stimulate factors like fibroblast growth factor and platelet-derived factor, promoting the formation and reorganization of new elastin and collagen fibers. This process results in histological changes such as mild epidermal hyperplasia, increased elastic material, and improved collagen in the skin. Microneedling is recommended for treating facial scars, stretch marks, dyschromial conditions, photoaged skin, alopecia, actinic keratoses, and pigmentary disorders.
