TLDR Microneedling with platelet-rich plasma showed quicker improvements in male pattern hair loss than microneedling with 5% topical minoxidil, with no serious side effects.
In this study from 2020, two men suffering from male pattern hair loss were treated with different methods. A 33-year-old man at Hamilton-Norwood stage III was treated with microneedling and platelet-rich plasma (PRP), while a 34-year-old man at Hamilton-Norwood stage IV was treated with microneedling and 5% topical minoxidil. Both patients underwent eight sessions of microneedling treatment over a period of 6 months. The results showed that significant improvements were observed earlier in the patient who underwent microneedling and PRP treatment, with high overall patient satisfaction. No serious side effects were observed in either patient.
