TLDR Upadacitinib and oral minoxidil improved Crohn's disease and hair regrowth in a patient.
This study presents a case of a 20-year-old male with Crohn's disease (CD), alopecia universalis (AU), and atopic dermatitis (AD) who was treated with upadacitinib, a JAK1 inhibitor, and oral minoxidil. The patient experienced significant improvement in gastrointestinal symptoms and complete hair regrowth within 11 weeks of treatment. This case suggests that upadacitinib, in combination with oral minoxidil, may effectively promote rapid remission of AU and CD, highlighting the potential of JAK inhibitors to address overlapping immune-mediated disorders. The findings underscore the importance of dual-purpose immunomodulatory therapies in managing complex autoimmune conditions. Further studies are needed to explore the role of oral minoxidil in combination regimens for alopecia areata.
