TLDR Proper hair care can prevent and stop hair breakage in people with acquired trichorrhexis nodosa.
Acquired trichorrhexis nodosa (TN) was identified as a common cause of hair loss across all ethnicities, particularly affecting black patients with tightly curled hair. The condition posed diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to the structural differences in hair types and damaging hair care practices. Diagnosis was primarily clinical, as scalp biopsies showed limited histologic findings. Management focused on protecting the hair shaft and minimizing damage through a healthy hair care regimen, emphasizing the use of appropriate cleansing and conditioning products. The paper reviewed literature on acquired TN and provided guidelines for preventing and halting hair breakage.
