TLDR The RNA AL136131.3 slows down hair growth and speeds up hair loss by affecting sugar breakdown in hair follicles.
The study aimed to identify potential long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) indicators for androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and understand the role of AL136131.3 in hair growth. The researchers collected miniaturized and normal follicles from 10 AGA patients for RNA-sequencing. They found 378 mRNAs and 137 lncRNAs differentially expressed between miniaturized and normal follicles. Among these, AL136131.3 was up-regulated in miniaturized follicles. The study found that overexpression of AL136131.3 inhibited hair shaft growth, accelerated hair follicles into the catagen phase, inhibited proliferation, and promoted apoptosis of hair follicles. Additionally, overexpression of AL136131.3 inhibited the transcription of glycolysis-related PPARγ and PKM in anagen hair follicles. Therefore, AL136131.3 might inhibit hair growth and accelerate the hair follicles into catagen through inhibiting the expressions of PFM and PPARγ in AGA.

A 26-year-old man from France started experiencing hair loss in September 2020 and began using finasteride in June 2021, reporting some improvement after three months without side effects. He plans to continue finasteride for a year before considering additional treatments like minoxidil or dermarolling.

Biotin is being misleadingly marketed as a primary treatment for androgenic alopecia, overshadowing more effective treatments like finasteride and minoxidil. There is a call for increased awareness and accountability to prevent misinformation.

The conversation discusses why DHT (dihydrotestosterone) negatively affects scalp hair but promotes growth elsewhere on the body. Various opinions include genetic predispositions, differences in hair follicle reactions to DHT, and the potential role of Omega-3 in reducing inflammation and promoting hair health.

The post discusses frustration over the limited and not always effective treatments for hair loss, mainly Minoxidil and Finasteride. The conversation includes mentions of potential new treatments like GT20029, HMI-115, CosmeRNA, KX-826, and microneedling, but also highlights the challenges of funding and prioritizing research in this area.
