TLDR Lipid-polymer hybrid nanoparticles show promise for skin treatments but need better formulation strategies.
Lipid-polymer hybrid nanoparticles (LPN) combine the benefits of lipid and polymeric carriers to enhance drug delivery by improving biocompatibility, drug loading, stability, and controlled release. This review discusses the evolution of LPN structures and preparation methods, highlighting recent advancements like hot-melt emulsification for scalability. Despite their potential, the practical application of LPN in dermatological treatments, including wounds, skin infections, dermatitis, psoriasis, skin cancer, pain management, and cosmetics, remains uncertain. The review suggests revising formulation strategies to incorporate new methods for dermatological use.
