TLDR Light-based therapies show promise as safe treatments for hair loss.
This review examines the use of light-based therapies, including low-level laser therapy (LLLT), fractional laser, and excimer laser, in treating various forms of alopecia such as androgenetic alopecia, alopecia areata, and lichen planopilaris/frontal fibrosing alopecia. Despite the common occurrence of alopecia and its psychological impact, current treatments often have adverse effects and require lifelong use. The review highlights promising evidence for the efficacy of these laser therapies as safe alternatives, with LLLT showing potential for androgenetic alopecia and excimer laser for alopecia areata. A total of 72 unique articles were evaluated to assess these outcomes.
