TLDR Topical minoxidil is the primary treatment for female pattern hair loss in India.
Female pattern hair loss (FPHL), a common cause of hair loss characterized by progressive thinning of hair, is primarily treated with minoxidil. Other treatments include topical therapies such as biomimetic peptides, systemic therapies like oral anti-androgen drugs (finasteride and spironolactone), and oral minoxidil in certain cases. Dermatosurgical procedures like platelet-rich plasma, microneedling, low-level laser, and hair transplantation are also utilized. The role of diet in FPHL is still under debate. This article specifically discusses the optimal use of topical minoxidil in managing FPHL in Indian clinical practice.
