TLDR Variant G of the KRTAP20-1 gene improves wool curliness in Chinese Tan sheep.
The study investigated the impact of the KRTAP20-1 gene on wool traits in Chinese Tan sheep, focusing on four fibre characteristics. Seven variants of the gene were identified, with variants A and G being the most common. Variant G was found to be associated with increased mean fibre curvature in finer wool fibres, indicating that KRTAP20-1 may be differentially expressed in different fibre types. This finding could be valuable for future breeding programs.
