Keratosis pilaris was described as a genetic disorder characterized by small bumps around hair follicles, primarily affecting women. It manifested as gray and keratotic papules on areas like the arms, thighs, and buttocks. Variants included ulerythema ophryogenes, atrophoderma vermiculata, and Siemens alopecia. It could be associated with hereditary diseases such as Noonan syndrome or vitamin disorders. Treatment mainly involved emollients and keratolytics, which provided only temporary relief. A case study of a 30-year-old woman with a history of atopy showed diffuse keratotic papules on the trunk, with no genetic abnormalities found. Treatment led to slight improvement.
