TLDR Insulin resistance is linked to higher hormone levels in women with PCOS.
This study investigates the impact of insulin resistance on hormonal indicators in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in Baghdad. It involved 130 women aged 19-38, divided into three groups: 40 women with PCOS treated with metformin, 50 women with PCOS not treated, and 40 women in a control group. The study found that both treated and untreated PCOS groups had significantly higher levels of fasting blood sugar, insulin, and insulin resistance compared to the control group, with the untreated group showing the highest levels. A significant association was observed between insulin resistance levels and the luteinizing hormone (LH) proportion in women with PCOS, suggesting these parameters are crucial for evaluating therapeutic responses in this population.
