TLDR Hormone levels can help predict metformin treatment success in women with PCOS.
The study investigates the relationship between OCT1 polymorphisms and the effects of metformin in Iraqi women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in Karbala city. It suggests that hormonal levels of FSH, prolactin, and testosterone could serve as potential biomarkers for detecting PCOS and predicting the biomedical response to metformin treatment. This implies that monitoring these hormone levels could enhance the management and treatment outcomes for women with PCOS undergoing metformin therapy.
