TLDR Most dogs with adrenal-dependent hypercortisolism had normal blood pressure after one year of treatment or surgery.
This study evaluated 14 dogs with adrenal-dependent hypercortisolism (ADH) to assess the prevalence and control of systemic hypertension (SH) during the first year of trilostane treatment or after adrenalectomy. Initially, 79% of the dogs were hypertensive (SBP ≥ 160 mmHg), but this decreased to 25% after 12 months. Both treatment methods effectively reduced hypertension, with trilostane-treated dogs showing significant reductions in SH and adrenalectomy-treated dogs normalizing SBP within three months post-surgery. The study underscores the importance of individualized treatment and ongoing monitoring for dogs with ADH.
