    GlossarySystolic Blood Pressure (SBP)

pressure in arteries when heart beats and pumps blood

Systolic Blood Pressure (SBP) is the pressure in your arteries when your heart beats and pumps blood. It is the higher of the two numbers in a blood pressure reading, with the other being diastolic blood pressure, which measures the pressure when the heart is at rest between beats. For example, in a reading of 120/80 mmHg, 120 represents the systolic blood pressure.
