TLDR Hidradenitis suppurativa lesions have less collagen and elastin but more new blood vessels.
The study on hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) analyzed 104 lesions and found that the condition was characterized by ruptured hair follicles leading to significant chronic inflammation. Histological examination revealed common features such as migrating epithelial sheets, acute and chronic inflammation, and granulation tissue. Notably, areas with chronic inflammation showed a significant decrease in collagen and elastin, alongside increased neovascularization, as determined by specialized staining techniques.
