TLDR Higher hs-CRP levels in Indian adolescent women with PCOS are more related to BMI than PCOS itself.
The study, which included 160 Indian adolescent women with PCOS and 60 controls, aimed to evaluate the levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and its correlation with PCOS components. It was found that hs-CRP levels were higher in the PCOS group compared to controls, but the difference was not statistically significant. A significant positive correlation was observed between hs-CRP levels and BMI in the PCOS group. The study concluded that hs-CRP levels are not directly associated with PCOS in Indian adolescent women, and that cardiovascular risk in this population is more closely related to BMI rather than PCOS itself. The study also noted limitations, including not using the most accurate methods for assessing insulin resistance and cardiovascular disease markers.
