TLDR HIF-1α in fibroblasts boosts hair growth and health.
The study investigated the effects of transient transfection of the HIF-1α gene into fibroblasts on human hair follicles. Researchers successfully transfected fibroblasts with HIF-1α pcDNA3.0, leading to increased expression of VEGF in the cell culture supernatant. This supernatant, when added to human hair follicle cultures, accelerated hair follicle growth, prolonged the anagen phase, and enhanced cell viability. The findings suggested that HIF-1α expression in fibroblasts could enhance cellular activity and promote hair follicle growth through VEGF expression.
