TLDR A new compound, BOI, can help hair grow by changing hair cycle phases and increasing certain cell contents.
The study investigated the effects of bis-oleamido isopropyl alcohol (BOI), a newly synthesized ceramide mimetic compound, on hair growth using human hair follicles and animal models. BOI treatment promoted hair growth by inducing earlier conversion of telogen to anagen and increasing sphinganine, sphingosine, and ceramide contents in dermal papilla cells. Although it did not significantly enhance growth factor expression or follicular cell proliferation, BOI's modulation of de novo sphingolipid synthesis suggested its potential as a topical treatment for hair growth. Further research into the underlying mechanisms was recommended.
