TLDR Hair follicle-like structures can be created using hair cells on collagen/chitosan scaffolds.
The study investigated the potential for in vitro reconstruction of hair follicles by implanting hair follicle cells onto collagen/chitosan porous scaffolds. Hair follicle cells from 4-day old C57BL/6 mice were cultured and implanted into the scaffolds at varying densities and passages. Observations using microscopy techniques revealed that hair follicle-like structures with hair stems could form within the scaffolds when cells were implanted at specific densities and passages. The conclusion was that hair follicle-like structures could be generated from collagen/chitosan porous scaffolds implanted with hair follicle cells in vitro.
