Formulation of Hair Tonic Preparation from Green Tea (Camellia Sinensis L.) Leaf Ethanol Extract as Hair Growth on Male Rabbits (Oryctolagus Cuniculus)

    Pintata Sembiring
TLDR Green tea leaf extract at 7.5% concentration effectively promotes hair growth, similar to minoxidil.
This study investigated the efficacy of green tea leaf ethanol extract as a hair growth tonic compared to minoxidil using male rabbits. Three concentrations (2.5%, 5%, and 7.5%) of the extract were tested. The 7.5% concentration showed significant hair growth, almost matching the effectiveness of minoxidil, with average hair growth values on the 7th, 14th, and 21st days being 4.5, 5.2, and 6.5, respectively. Minoxidil had slightly higher values of 4.9, 6.3, and 7.9. The study concluded that the 7.5% green tea leaf extract is a promising alternative for hair growth, meeting physical stability requirements such as pH, viscosity, and organoleptic tests.
