TLDR Ginsenoside Rd may help improve skin aging by increasing collagen in the skin.
The study investigated the effects of ginsenoside Rd, a compound derived from Panax ginseng, on the dermal-epidermal junction (DEJ) in human dermal fibroblast cells. The DEJ is crucial for skin functions such as proliferation, differentiation, and adhesion of keratinocytes, and its components are known to decrease with aging. The research aimed to determine if ginsenoside Rd could enhance the expression of genes involved in the DEJ, potentially offering anti-aging benefits. Human dermal fibroblast cells were treated with 10 ppm ginsenoside Rd, and RT-qPCR was used to measure the expression levels of DEJ-related mRNA. The results showed that ginsenoside Rd treatment significantly increased the expression of collagen type VII by 7.48 times. Based on these findings, the study concluded that ginsenoside Rd has the potential to be an effective ingredient in anti-aging cosmetics.
