The study investigated the association of genetic polymorphisms in the androgen receptor gene and 5α-reductase genes with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in Han men from Eastern China. It involved 101 AGA patients and 104 healthy controls. The results showed no significant differences in StuⅠRFLP and CAG triplet repeat polymorphisms between the groups. However, a significant difference was found in GGC triplet repeat polymorphisms, with shorter CAG and GGC combinations more common in controls and longer combinations more common in patients. No significant differences were observed in the allele and genotype frequencies of the SRD5A1 and SRD5A2 genes. The study concluded that GGC triplet repeat polymorphisms in the androgen receptor gene were significantly associated with AGA, while 5α-reductase gene polymorphisms were not.
