TLDR Combining microneedling with glycosaminoglycan lotion may improve hair growth in mild androgenetic alopecia.
The study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of combining topical glycosaminoglycan (GAG) lotion with microneedling (MN) therapy in 16 patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Over 10 months, patients underwent four MN sessions with GAG lotion application, resulting in increased hair density and thickness (P = 0.02). Patient assessments showed varying degrees of improvement, with one reporting great improvement and seven reporting moderate improvement. No adverse effects were noted except for mild pain. The study suggests that MN with GAG lotion could be a useful treatment for mild AGA, though the small sample size limits the findings. Further research is recommended.
