TLDR Adding platelet rich plasma to hair transplant surgery leads to better results and more patient satisfaction.
The study, conducted by Amr Khairy Abdelhakim and colleagues, involved 45 patients with cicatricial alopecia, an irreversible hair loss condition. The patients were divided into three groups: Group A received follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplantation, Group B received FUE with intra-operative platelet rich plasma (PRP) injection, and Group C received FUE with two sessions of PRP. The results showed that PRP injections led to an increase in patient satisfaction, cellular proliferation, antiapoptotic activity, and the number of mitotically active immune-positive cells. The study concluded that the combination of PRP and FUE hair transplantation resulted in better outcomes and higher patient satisfaction compared to FUE alone. The effect was directly proportional to the number of PRP injections.
