Follicular Cysts and Hyperkeratoses in Early Mycosis Fungoides

    The document described a case study of a 63-year-old woman with a long history of skin issues, initially diagnosed as keratosis pilaris and later as pityriasis rubra pilaris. At 58, her condition worsened, presenting with poikiloderma, yellow cysts, palmoplantar keratoderma, and scarring alopecia. Histopathologic investigations revealed dense T lymphocyte infiltrates and epidermal cysts, but no mycosis fungoides cells. Despite a heart infarction and treatment with metropolol, her skin condition did not improve until acitretin treatment was reinstated, leading to marked improvement. The study highlighted the effectiveness of acitretin in managing her symptoms, with no significant side effects except cheilitis.
