TLDR Finasteride effectively slowed hair loss and promoted hair growth in Taiwanese men.
The study evaluated the efficacy and safety of finasteride 1 mg/day in 34 Taiwanese men with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) over 12 months. Results showed that 23.8% of participants experienced a two-grade improvement in the modified Norwood/Hamilton scale (MNHS), and 57.1% had a one-grade improvement. Observable hair growth was noted in 15.1% of subjects at 6 months and 52.4% at 12 months. Patient self-assessment indicated increased satisfaction with hair growth, with 42.9% satisfied with their appearance at 12 months. Serum prostate specific antigen levels decreased by 23.4%, and adverse effects were minimal, with no established causal relationship to finasteride. Overall, finasteride was effective in slowing hair loss and promoting hair growth in this population.
