TLDR The film-trigger applicator improves microneedle skin delivery and drug efficiency using simple finger force.
The study introduced a film-trigger applicator (FTA) system designed to improve the delivery of dissolving microneedles (DMNs) into the skin, using the fracture energy of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) film. This system demonstrated enhanced drug delivery efficiency compared to traditional DMN patches, as evidenced by improved skin penetration and higher plasma insulin levels in C57BL/6 mice. The FTA system, which operates with simple finger force and does not require complex external devices, showed promise as a next-generation microneedle applicator, potentially overcoming the limitations of conventional DMN patch systems.
