TLDR New treatment for hair loss using special microneedles shows promise in reducing inflammation and promoting hair growth.
The study introduces a novel patchless triamcinolone acetonide-encapsulated candlelit-dissolving microneedle (TCD) with an applicator for treating alopecia areata (AA). This innovative TCD system ensures uniform insertion and targeted delivery of the drug to the skin dermis and hair follicles, improving patient compliance and reducing side effects compared to conventional therapies. In vitro tests showed effective inflammation reduction, while in vivo tests on AA-induced C3H/HeJ mice demonstrated significant hair growth and reduced inflammation. The TCD system, combining hyaluronic acid and polyvinylpyrrolidone, offers a promising alternative to traditional TA treatments, potentially enhancing AA management and laying the groundwork for future research.
