TLDR The document concludes that treatment can improve hair growth and symptoms in Fibrosing Alopecia in a Pattern Distribution.
The document described a case of Fibrosing Alopecia in a Pattern Distribution (FAPD) in a 58-year-old woman who had been experiencing hair loss for 10 years. FAPD is a form of lichen planopilaris that affects areas where pattern hair loss occurs. The patient's symptoms included diffuse alopecia, perifollicular scale, erythema, and follicular dropout, with trichoscopic examination supporting the diagnosis of FAPD. Treatment with desoximetasone cream, hydroxychloroquine, minoxidil lotion, and finasteride resulted in cessation of hair loss, reduced scalp burning, and improved hair growth after one year. The case suggested that FAPD might be related to female pattern hair loss (FPHL), either as a late manifestation or as a progression from FPHL, highlighting the need for more research on the condition's causes and development.
