TLDR Korean people prefer M-shaped hairlines and lower foreheads, with no major differences across various demographics.
The document discusses a study on female hairline preferences among the Korean population, conducted from November 3rd to November 9th, 2011, with 609 participants (290 men and 319 women). The study aimed to determine aesthetic preferences for hairline contours and heights in the context of hair transplantation, which is often performed for cosmetic reasons rather than to correct hair loss. Participants were shown photographs of different hairline shapes (triangular, round, rectangular, M-shaped) and heights and asked to choose their preferred style. The M-shaped contour was the most preferred, followed by rectangular, round, and triangular. For forehead height, a lower mid-face to upper face ratio was favored. No significant association was found between hairline contour preference and factors such as sex, age, marital status, education, or geographic location, except for a history of hair transplantation, which influenced preferences for triangular or round contours and higher forehead heights. The study suggests that doctors should consider individual patient preferences rather than standardizing the round contour for all patients and that future studies should involve a larger sample size for more reliable results.
