TLDR Most women have a widow's peak and specific hairline features useful for designing hair restoration surgery.
In a study involving 360 female volunteers, researchers observed that 81% had a widow's peak, with the mean distance from the mid-eyebrow to the frontal midpoint being 5.5 cm. Lateral mounds were present in 98% of subjects, with specific mean distances recorded from various points on the forehead. Additionally, 87% had concave triangular or oval temporal recessions, and 64% had hairline cowlicks, with 70% of those cowlicks occurring on the left side. The study provided detailed measurements and concluded that these could be used as guidelines for designing hairlines in women undergoing hair restoration surgery, with the data being robust due to the large sample size and the normal distribution of values. The findings are considered to have universal applicability for hairline design in female hair transplantation, despite the lack of diversity in racial and ethnic backgrounds among the subjects.
