TLDR Most Spanish Caucasian women have a widow's peak, and their hormone levels suggest they process certain hormones faster.
In the 2013 study involving 103 healthy premenopausal white Spanish women with a mean age of 29.7 years, researchers found that the anterior hairline patterns, specifically the widow's peak, were more common (94.17%) and pronounced than previously reported in American women. The study also noted that the mean level of 17-hydroxyprogesterone was elevated at 1.39 ng/mL, suggesting higher adrenal androgen clearance rates in the participants, who were physicians. The findings are significant for assessing and treating hairline recession in female androgenetic alopecia and scarring alopecia, as well as for surgical hairline reconstruction. The study highlights the importance of considering ethnic and age differences in hairline patterns and suggests further research in diverse populations to understand the hormonal influences on hairline distribution, sebum secretion, and skin hydration.
