TLDR Integrating best practices for steroid users in Swiss primary care is feasible and beneficial, but doping laws need change.
This study demonstrates that integrating current best clinical practices for anabolic androgenic steroids users in recreational sports is feasible and well-accepted in a Swiss primary care setting. Users often engage in high-risk behaviors and have a high prevalence of comorbid medical conditions, benefiting from coordinated medical care in primary health care. The study's initial results led to the continuation and expansion of these services to further assess and mitigate health risks. However, current doping legislation poses a significant barrier to providing adequate medical care, highlighting the need for legislative changes to address this public health issue.
