TLDR BMP2 and BMPR-IA may stop hair growth while Noggin may encourage it in yak skin.
The study investigated the expression profiles of BMP2, BMPR-IA, and Noggin in the hair follicle (HF) cycle of yak skin. BMP2 and BMPR-IA were found to inhibit HF growth, with their highest expression levels during the telogen phase. In contrast, Noggin promoted HF growth, showing significantly higher expression in the proanagen and midanagen phases, with the peak in the proanagen phase. These proteins were expressed in various skin structures, including the epidermis and hair matrix, indicating that they regulate the HF cycle by affecting skin epithelial cell activity. The findings provided insights into the molecular regulation of HF development in yaks.
