TLDR Many young women are unaware of PCOS symptoms, and poor diets worsen their menstrual cycles.
This exploratory research aimed to assess the awareness of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) among adult females, particularly university students in Pakistan. The study found that 20% of the 100 participants had PCOS but were unaware of their symptoms. Despite 48% of respondents claiming they did not have PCOS, their symptoms suggested otherwise. The study highlighted that 53.9% of participants experienced irregular periods, and 45% reported weight gain. Additionally, 39.2% of participants experienced increased cravings. The research concluded that many adolescent girls were unaware of PCOS symptoms, and their diets, often consisting of junk food and beverages, negatively impacted their menstrual cycles.
