TLDR Engineered exosomes with EGF and FGF improve hair growth in mice with hair loss.
The study published in the International Journal of Nanomedicine explores a novel therapeutic approach for androgenetic alopecia (AGA) using engineered exosomes co-delivering epidermal growth factor (EGF) and fibroblast growth factor (FGF). Researchers constructed dual-factor engineered exosomes (EXO-EGF/FGF) using LAMP2B fusion engineering technology and evaluated their effects on human dermal papilla cells (HDPCs) and an androgen-induced AGA mouse model. The results showed that EXO-EGF/FGF promoted HDPC proliferation and migration, restored hair coverage density, and improved follicular structural integrity in the mouse model without causing immunogenic reactions or systemic toxicity. This approach effectively repaired the pathological microenvironment in AGA, offering a promising and safe alternative to conventional therapies.
