TLDR Exosomes can improve skin elasticity, reduce wrinkles, and enhance hydration, but more research is needed.
This systematic review highlights the potential of exosomes and extracellular vesicles (EVs) in skin rejuvenation, demonstrating their ability to improve skin elasticity, reduce wrinkle depth, enhance hydration, and modulate pigmentation. The review analyzed 21 suitable studies from an initial 1032 papers, showing that exosome-based therapies increase collagen and elastin synthesis, reduce oxidative stress, and suppress matrix metalloproteinases. Treatments from sources like adipose stem cells and platelets showed favorable safety profiles and high patient satisfaction. Despite promising results, further standardized clinical trials with larger cohorts and longer follow-up are necessary to confirm efficacy and ensure long-term safety, potentially revolutionizing anti-aging skincare strategies.
