TLDR Delivering IGF-1 with PLGA microspheres improves stem cell regeneration for tissues.
This study explores a biomaterial strategy using uniform poly(lactic-co-glycolic) acid (PLGA) microspheres (uPLGA-Ms) for the sustained delivery of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) to enhance the regenerative capabilities of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs). The uPLGA-Ms were fabricated using microfluidics to ensure precise and monodispersed delivery of IGF-1. The results indicate that this method stabilizes IGF-1 and provides a more efficient and cost-effective delivery compared to traditional methods. Gene expression analysis showed that the uPLGA delivery of IGF-1 supports hMSCs expansion, survival, stemness, and secretion abilities, making this approach promising for tissue and organ regeneration.
